The fewer software manufacturers that you deal with, the more you can focus on Operations. The mainstream OpenSource offerings allow you to do exactly that. RedHat, Suse, Dedian, Mandrake, Gentoo, Ubuntu are all Linux distributions that contain the majority of applications you'll need.

One mainstream Linux distribution contains hundreds of the applications you'll need. They maintain the relationship with the original manufacturers. They repackage these programs and applications and provide them to you. Every one of the apps are supported through the Linux distribution of your choosing, including periodic security and bug fix patches. This means you deal only with the Linux manufacturer and no one else.

This means much less administrative burden to run your enterprise of OpenSource software network. You are now free to run your company headache free.
